The ship fuel surcharge (Formerly known as Bunker Adjustment Factor (BAF)) is imposed by ship operators to compensate for fluctuations in prices of ship’s fuel (bunker) used on the ferry crossings.
The reference fuel price for each month is taken from the 16th of month N-2 until the 15th of the month N-1. It is based for 97.2% on the average Rotterdam Low Sulphur Marine Gas Oil (LSMGO) price in €/tonne (98.6% for EU-UK voyages), and for 2.8% (1.4% for EU-UK voyages) on the price of UCOME 100% biodiesel in €/tonne. The ship fuel surcharge on individual shipping routes is then calculated by multiplying the 'trade factor' by the reference fuel price.
