CLdN Ports Killingholme wish to recruit a Night Workshop Team Leader to lead the night shift team within our busy and expanding engineering department. The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role, ideally with previous supervisory experience, and have a flexible, professional and pro-active approach to work, taking responsibility for keeping our terminal equipment running through the night shift.
Your role
Lead and supervise the night shift engineering team, ensuring all the Port's plant and equipment is maintained in good working order and meets legal specifications.
Work flexibly and dynamically to meet operational demand throughout the night shift. Monday to Thursday 19:00hrs – 06:00hrs
Prioritise and allocate the night shift workload to ensure the maximum equipment is available for the port operation at the start of the day shift.
Act as the senior engineering representative on site through the night, working without direct supervision and escalating to the Workshop Manager or on-call management where required.
Deputise for the Workshop Manager in respect of all night shift engineering activity.
Carry out a full handover with the Day Shift Workshop Team Leader at the beginning and end of every shift, covering outstanding defects, work in progress and equipment removed from service.
Carry out planned inspections and repairs as instructed, ensuring all plant and equipment is maintained to a high standard and repairs are completed safely and in a timely manner.
Carry out spot checks on work undertaken within the workshop, ensuring any equipment leaving the workshop is roadworthy, safe and in a clean condition.
Liaise with Terminal Managers and Supervisors on maintenance activities to minimise disruption to operations.
Ensure all paperwork, job sheets and service records are completed correctly, whether on paper or digitally, using the Company's computerised systems for parts and service activities.
Ensure all parts used are booked out correctly, and plan parts and consumables in advance, recognising that suppliers are not available during the night shift.
Carry out H&S inspections and tests as required, reporting any anomalies to the Workshop Manager.
Ensure health & safety legislation, Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work are understood and followed by the night team, with particular regard to lone working, reduced manning levels, fatigue and emergency response.
Support the training and development of Engineering apprentices and undertake training courses to improve workshop efficiency and your own development.
Comply with all Company policies, procedures, best practices and standards.
Your profile
Time-served apprenticeship or NVQ/City & Guilds Level 3 in mechanical, plant or vehicle engineering, or equivalent experience.
Able to carry out mechanical and electrical work, diagnostics and repairs, with proven experience of mechanical fault finding and repair techniques.
Previous experience working with heavy plant and machinery - ideally forklifts, reach stackers, RoRo tractors, RTGs or similar port equipment.
Previous supervisory or team leader experience would be advantageous.
Willing and able to work permanent night shifts.
Able to work, and make decisions, without direct supervision.
Good knowledge of health & safety legislation, Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
Pro-active approach to problem solving, workload and time management, with the ability to prioritise to tight timescales.
Good interpersonal and communication skills, with proficiency in bespoke and Microsoft systems.
Able to work within a team and to lead a team.
Self-motivated and highly organised, with good timekeeping, attention to detail and accurate record-keeping.
A flexible approach to work, covering when required, which could include working at other CLdN Ports across the UK and Europe.
Full UK driving licence preferred.
