All shipments between GB and IRE/NI are subject to an Energy Surcharge. This is made up of a Fuel Component and a Emission Component.
For UK-EU routes (Liverpool-Dublin and Heysham-Dublin) the Fuel Component is adjusted monthly based on the weighted average index price of a) 98.6% very low sulphur fuel (0.5% sulphur) and b) 1.4% of UCOME 100% biofuel. For UK-UK routes the Fuel Component is adjusted monthly based on the average index price of very low sulphur fuel (0.5% sulphur).
These references are based on the average price for the period 16.05.26 -15.06.26. Costs may rise or fall based on the fuel price, leading to variable monthly charges per metre.
The Emission Component has an EU and UK part reflecting the differing scopes of the EU and UK ETS. For our three Irish Sea corridors HEY-DUB, LIV-DUB (EU-UK) and HEY-WPT (UK-UK), the Emission Component is calculated as follows:
EU-UK : The average CO2 equivalent price (EEX EUA End of Day Index price in EUR/tonne) x 99% (i.e a discount reflecting the reduced carbon emissions resulting from the use of biofuel on EU-UK routes). The EU part is adjusted for routes to/from the UK (-50%) + emission component relating to emissions in the UK port, which represent 7% of emissions. The average CO2 price is taken from the ICE UKA Futures (entitlement to emit one tonne of CO2 expressed in £).
UK-UK (HEY-WPT): Emission component relating to 50% of ‘at sea’ emissions (at sea emissions account for 86% of total emissions) + emissions in the UK ports (total port emissions account for 14% of total emissions). This equates to 57% of total emissions (43% for ‘at sea’ emissions and 14% for port emissions). The average CO2 price is taken from the ICE UKA Futures (entitlement to emit one tonne of CO2 expressed in £).
Exchange rates (£/$ and £/€) are also averaged on the period, 16.05.2026 -15.06.2026.
